Walkthrough: Can you get out of the room?
Here’s your dilemma: You’re trapped in a room and the only way out is a door, the knob for which, lies in a briefcase you don’t know how to open. The door itself is blocked by a chair bolted tightly to the floor. There appear to be no other ways out, except for clues, that lie hidden throughout the room. Think you’re up for the challenge?
Make sure you’re running at least IE7 or something equivalent with the latest version of Flash.
Good Luck!

WalkthroughWalkthrough: Can you get out of the room?
- Saumitra Bhagwat (sammy2066)
v1.00.07.25.2009
The objective of the game is to use the various items and clues in the room to find a way to open the door and get the hell out. (How hard could it be?)
Basics:
Use the mouse to click on various parts of the room and to move about. Clicking on certain parts of the room lets you zoom in and interact with objects. Any items you collect are placed in an inventory bar at the bottom of the screen. (Which I might add, is a blatant rip-off of the OS X dock.) Items can be used on other objects in the room, and can also be used on other items in your inventory. Any item you collect can be further manipulated by clicking on the (i) on the object’s icon. You can click on the enlarged image of the item to see if it can be manipulated
Note: The game randomizes the clues and numbers every time, so any examples/numbers used in this guide may differ from what you encounter while playing the game.
Walkthrough:
Look behind the briefcase to get a small silver key. The bottom left edge of the painting has a small silver battery taped to it. Collect it, and use the sliver key to open the painting to reveal a safe. Collect another small key (this opens the briefcase). Now head to the chair and collect the paper note stuck under it. There’s another silver battery on the right bottom edge of the floor next to the door.
Inventory: 2x Battery, 1x Note, 1x Briefcase Key
Move to the other wall and open the left shelf by pressing the button. The note under the chair has a graphic pertaining to the right shelf. If you haven’t already figured it out, open the right shelf by keeping the button pressed for 10 seconds. Collect the corked test tube vial and the gold bar from the left and right shelves respectively.
Inventory: 2x Battery, 1x Note, 1x Briefcase Key, 1x Test Tube, 1x Gold Brick
Proceed to open the briefcase. Click on the key from the inventory to select it and then click on each individual latch to open the briefcase. Collect the manila envelope, Swiss army knife, laser pointer and colored dice. The 3 keyhole box is our ultimate objective. The box contains the handle for the door.
Open the manila folder to reveal a paper that says “GOOD LUCK” and a smiley face. (Aww, that’s so nice of them eh?)
The First Key:
Here’s the first tricky puzzle. Look at the note in the briefcase. It should be grid with 4 alphabets and a different colored background. Note the color for each letter and write it down.
Proceed to the left shelf. You’ll see seven buttons that can each accept six colors. This is where your piano lessons come in handy.
*Thanks Sir SpemzR from MacRumors for the image.
So the seven buttons correspond to CDEFGAB. Select the right color for the corresponding buttons to open the case. Collect the key and place it in the first keyhole on the box in the briefcase.
Eg: The fourth button corresponds to F. The color is light blue.
The Second Key:
To the right of the briefcase is a loose floorboard. Use the gold brick to prop up the floorboard. Then use the Swiss knife (Click on (i), then click on the knife to shuffle through the various tools. Here we need the knife) to cut the string under the floorboard. Re-collect the gold brick, open the floorboard and collect the black light.
Inventory: 2x Battery, 1x Note, 1x Briefcase Key, 1x Test Tube, 1x Gold Brick, 1x Manila Envelope, 1x Colored Dice, 1x Laser Pointer, 1x Swiss Knife
Notice the power outlet in the room. Use the Swiss knife to open the conduit, and the flat screwdriver to unscrew the screws. Click on the power outlet to reveal another silver battery.
Access the (i) for the laser pointer and use the 3 silver batteries to power it up. Now use the Swiss knife to uncork the test tube vial and retrieve the paper within. The paper should say XX=”number”. Write down that number. Now use the laser pointer on any surface and write down what it projects. Here’s what I got.
Eg: 47R58LXXR38L – Replace the XX with what your paper says. This is the code to crack open the safe.
Access the safe. This is easy, but somewhat confusing. When you follow the information in the code, R means you move the dial clockwise. Contrary to intuition, when you move the dial clockwise, the numbers move anti-clockwise. Keep this in mind.
47R – Move dial clockwise. The arrow on top should point to number 47 on the dial.
58L – From 47, move dial anti-clockwise. The arrow on top should point to 58.
XXR – For me this was 48. From 58, move dial clockwise to 48.
38L – Same.
Open the safe and collect another note, a wrench and a white radio.
Inventory: 1x Note(Chair), 1x Briefcase Key, 1x Test Tube, 1x Gold Brick, 1x Manila Envelope, 1x Colored Dice, 1x Laser Pointer, 1x Swiss Knife, 1x Black Light, 1x Radio, 1x Code Note(Vial), 1x Wrench, 1x Note (Safe)
If you’ve noticed, the chair has been bolted to the floor. Use the wrench to unbolt it and get it out of the way. You’ll collect 4 bolts in the process.
The white radio has a mechanical equalizer, and two buttons; play and eject. The objective here is to set each knob to play the highest frequency sound. All sounds should be the same frequency. Use the brute-force method here. Adjust each knob till it emits a high frequency sound, and repeat the process for the remaining knobs. Once they all emit the same high frequency sound, click the eject button to open the radio.
Collect another note from inside the radio. Use the Swiss knife on the speaker to procure a magnet. Use the magnet on the wrench to attach the magnet to it. Follow the instructions inside the radio on the four holes in the ground (near the chair) to procure 4 AA batteries. Use these to power the black light.
Now we proceed to get the second key.
Use the black light on the colored dice to reveal patterns corresponding to each color on the cube. Write these down. Access the keypad on the right shelf and press the bottom most button to reveal the order of the small colored lights.
*Thanks Watabou on MacRumors for the image.
Eg: So if yellow equals a 6, then you press the buttons in first and last rows. Then proceed to the next color.
Depending on your order, replicate the pattern on the keypad for each color and collect the second key. Place it in the black box.
The Third Key:
Now, let’s focus our attention to the note from the safe. The black light is used extensively henceforth to unearth clues to procure the third and final key.
Use the black light on the wall above the briefcase to reveal an outline of the third shelf. Click on the button to open the shelf. You’ll see a chessboard type keypad. Now perhaps the note from the safe makes more sense. The numbers correspond to a key on this keypad.
The numbers and letters on the keypad are not clear enough, so if you’re not a chess player (like me), you’ll have to look more closely. The letters are columns from left to right (A-D), and the numbers rows from bottom to top (1-4).
Here’s what my note said.
1) c3
2) c4
3) a4
4) d1
The numbers on your note will be different.
You can enter these numbers immediately on the keypad. The blacked out numbers are hidden all over the room. Use your black light on the following items to find some clues.
1) Power Outlet
2) Inside the safe
3) On the gold brick
4) Under the loose floorboard
Write down what you see. You’ll find something like this. This is what I got. Again, you will have different numbers.
GO=d1
OD=d4
LU=a3
CK=b1
As you might have guessed, the letters spell out “GOOD LUCK”. Now where did we see that before?
Use your black light on the paper from the manila envelope. You’ll see lines connecting GD, OC, OU and LK. Now, to extrapolate this information.
The connecting lines tell us the remaining 4 combinations.
Eg: For GD, G corresponds to the letter d in GO=d1. D corresponds to the number 4 in OD=d4. So you enter d4.
So with the numbers I’ve got, the remaining 4 entries are as follows:
GD: G=d, D=4 — d4
OC: C=b, O=1 — b1
OU: O=d, U=3 — d3
LK: C=b, K=1 — a1
If any entry repeats with the ones from the note, disregard it.
Although your numbers will be different, the method to get the combinations is the same. Use my example as a guideline.
We’re on the home stretch now. Use the 3rd key to open the box. Use the handle on the door and get the hell out!
