The drop of the price for the 80GB PS3 model had an immediate effect on the market. This week, sales have already increased a whopping 30% according to VGChartz. It seems that the overall sales have not been as high as they would have expected though.
Here are the reasons:
- Consumers are waiting for the new model PS3 which launches on September 1st
- Stocks of the existing model are starting to become quite low in the US – indeed the entire reason for the price cut is to get rid of the last of the stock to make way for the new model.
This means that sales could potentially get even higher in the coming weeks. VGChartz notes that preorders for the slim PS3 are actually greater than the current PS3 sales, so we’ll see how it stands after it debuts on the 1st.
As for me, unless I can convince my housemates to purchase it – I’ll still be PS3-less. My money needs to be saved for a DSLR camera and Japan. I would love to play the upcoming PS3 games though. Like Uncharted 2. And Heavy Rain. And FFXIII Versus. And The Last Guardian. And some PS3 exclusives I was never able to play ><.
